BECEE Startup Pitch Day Successfully Held at University “Aleksandër Moisiu” Durrës

Innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration took center stage as the University “Aleksandër Moisiu” Durrës (UAMD) successfully hosted the BECEE Startup Pitch Day, a flagship activity organized within the framework of the BECEE Project (Balanced and Enhanced Collaboration for an Entrepreneurship Ecosystem).

The event represented a significant milestone in UAMD’s ongoing commitment to fostering entrepreneurial education and supporting students in transforming innovative ideas into sustainable, market-oriented ventures. By bringing together students, academic mentors, entrepreneurship experts, and industry professionals, the Startup Pitch Day created a dynamic environment where innovation could be explored, challenged, and further developed.

This edition of the Startup Pitch Day focused on one of the most important sectors for future societal development, healthcare and medical innovation. Student teams presented a diverse portfolio of startup ideas designed to address real-world healthcare challenges through innovative products, services, and technological solutions. Their projects reflected a strong combination of scientific knowledge, creativity, market awareness, and social responsibility, demonstrating the growing entrepreneurial potential among university students.

The journey to the final pitching event involved weeks of preparation, mentoring, and collaborative work. Throughout the programme, students received continuous guidance from experienced mentors and experts who supported them in refining their business concepts, validating market opportunities, developing sustainable business models, and preparing professional investment pitches. This mentoring process enabled participants to strengthen both their entrepreneurial mindset and their practical business development skills.

During the final pitching session, each team presented its startup concept before an expert evaluation panel composed of academics, innovation specialists, and entrepreneurship professionals. Participants demonstrated not only the originality of their ideas but also their ability to communicate complex concepts, justify their business models, and respond confidently to questions regarding market potential, implementation strategies, and long-term sustainability.

The jury evaluated the proposed startup concepts according to several key criteria, including:

  • 💡 Degree of innovation and originality.
  • 📈 Market potential and business feasibility.
  • ❤️ Expected social and healthcare impact.
  • 🌍 Sustainability and long-term scalability.
  • 🚀 Entrepreneurial potential and implementation capacity.

Following the presentations, the evaluation committee selected the most promising startup teams to progress to the next stage of the programme, the BECEE Incubation Phase. During this phase, participants will benefit from additional mentoring, business coaching, networking opportunities, and specialised support aimed at helping them further develop, validate, and implement their innovative ideas. The incubation programme will provide students with valuable resources to move from concept development towards potential market entry and real-world application.

Beyond the competition itself, the Startup Pitch Day demonstrated the value of experiential learning as a powerful educational approach. Students gained practical experience in innovation management, business planning, teamwork, communication, leadership, and strategic decision-making—competencies that are increasingly essential in today’s knowledge-based economy.

Participation in activities such as the Startup Pitch Day enables students to:

  • 💡 Transform innovative ideas into viable startup concepts.
  • 🩺 Develop entrepreneurial solutions addressing healthcare challenges.
  • 📊 Design sustainable and market-oriented business models.
  • 🤝 Collaborate with mentors, experts, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • 🎤 Strengthen presentation, communication, and pitching skills.
  • 🌍 Contribute to regional innovation and societal wellbeing through entrepreneurship.

The event directly supports the objectives of the BECEE Project, which seeks to strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems by promoting collaboration between higher education institutions, businesses, public organisations, and regional stakeholders. Through challenge-based learning and practical entrepreneurial experiences, BECEE encourages students to become innovators capable of creating solutions that generate economic, social, and environmental value.

The Startup Pitch Day also reflects the broader vision of modern higher education, where universities serve not only as centres of knowledge creation but also as catalysts for innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional development. By encouraging students to solve real-world challenges through entrepreneurial approaches, UAMD continues to strengthen its role as an active contributor to the regional innovation ecosystem.

The success of the event was made possible through the dedication of the participating students, mentors, academic staff, expert jury members, and all partners involved in organising the programme. Their collective efforts have created an inspiring environment where creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship can flourish.

Congratulations to all participating teams for their outstanding ideas, professionalism, and entrepreneurial spirit. Special congratulations to the teams selected for the BECEE Incubation Phase, where they will continue transforming their innovative concepts into sustainable ventures with the potential to make a meaningful impact on the future of healthcare.
